Melissa is a footwear brand from Brazil. According to the Melissa website, Melissa designs are not shoes, they are fashion accessories. Melissa shoes have been in existence for 25 years now, exporting over
50 million shoes to 80 different countries across the world. Melissa
transforms plastic spheres into objects of desire.
Melissa employs several different designers to create their shoe collections.
One such designer is a lady called Zaha Hadid. She was the first woman laureate of the Pritzker Prize for architecture in 2004. She is recognised today as an industry icon. World wide recognition has been obtained by Melissa's brave creative interpretation of multiethnic styles.
Other designers of Melissa shoes include Fernando and Humberto Campana, who say that "Fashion and Design are Art. They enclose different cultural manifestations and tell the story of our time. They are simply everything".
Celebrated British fashion designer Judy Blame also designs for Melissa. His first collection, in 2005, was a great success. Judy is also part of the Louis Vuitton fashion design team.
The current collection of Melissa shoes has rubber brogues, amazing wedges and some stylish shoe boots. My particular favourite are the brogues embellished with swarovkski crystals (see above left). They were designed by J Marksey, a renowned jewellery designer. Her touch of sparkle has put these brogues bang on trend, her inspiration was taken from a starry night sky.
