Nicholas Kirkwood is a British shoe designer, another graduate of Cordwainers College of Design, as are Rupert Sanderson and Beatrix Ong. Nicholas Kirkwood also attended the Central Saint Martin's Design School where he studied fine art.
Nicholas Kirkwood spent time as a shoe designer at ChloƩ, before he launched his own shoe collection in Spring 2005. His designs are stunning, bringing together a modern architecture with subtle femininity. Clearly, Nicholas Kirkwood is inspired by geometry and clean lines - emphasis is on the shape of the shoe, not on superfluous embellishments that may adorn the shoes of other designers. He loves platform soles to give us ladies extra height (definitely needed in my case - I need all the help I can get being somewhat vertically challenged at 5'2"). His favoured materials are the finest satin, lizard, snakeskin (including python) and suede.
Celebrities known to love Nicholas Kirkwood shoes include Grace Jones and Katy Perry (she wore his shoes and she liked them), see the photo on the left.
Nicholas Kirkwood shoes are primarily on sale in London, in the high end department stores including Harvey Nichols (so presumably they are also sold at the other branches of Harvey Nics around the UK), Harrods Shoe Boudoir, Liberty and Dover Street Market.
