Rupert Sanderson is a British shoe designer who was originally an advertising executive. He gave up a promising career in the advertising world to pursue his dream of designing shoes. In order to fulfil his dream, he studied a design course at the Cordwainers College in East London.
Whilst studying, he took a trip to Italy to visit the shoe manufacturers there to see what he could learn from them. He worked for two different Italian designers, first Sergio Rossi and later for Bruno Magli.
Rupert Sanderson launched his own designer shoe company in 2001. His shoes are ladylike, flattering and sexy, lacking the excessive adornment that is seen with some shoe designers. He designs the shoes to enhance the wearer's foot and leg length, and derives his inspiration from the finest quality leather and fabric. His shoes complete both dressy and casual outfits.
Rupert Sanderson won Accessory Designer of the Year award at the 2008 British Fashion Awards and more recently at the 2009 Elle Style Awards.
Celebrities who have been seen wearing Rupert Sanderson footwear include Gwyneth Paltrow and Zoe Tapper.
Rupert Sanderson has two shoe boutiques in the UK, both are situated in London. One is at 33 Bruton Place, Mayfair and the other is on 2A Hans Road, Knightsbridge. His designs are also stocked by Harvey Nichols, Harrods, Selfridges and other luxury department stores and boutiques around the world including Bergdorf Goodman in the US.
